Our very own published author!
A Frederic graduate and current 4th grade teacher just
published her first book "Finding Apollyon." Dawn Harlander found a
passion for books in her education at Frederic School District.
This morphed into a love of writing that was nurtured by teachers
along the way. During a community education writing class, she
began to write what would become "Finding Apollyon." Her book
for young adults is available online and at the Frederic School's
The Heavenly Hats School & Community Event was
held on October 9th in Frederic and oh what a fantastic
outpouring of support!! I was amazing how people in this
awesome community came together with the school district to make
this fundraiser a huge success. Once the word was out, I had
calls from local community members asking how they could help,
dropping off checks to support and really making this a Frederic
Community Effort, said Kelly Steen, elementary principal.
Mr. Fisher and I were amazed when we
went back to the businesses and realized how much was collected and
took pictures of the sea of hats, it was very fun to see and
be a part of. The Frederic Community/Schools raised $
578.00 as of Friday the 9th and a few phones calls came
in asking if they could drop off checks on Monday. Our
community should be very proud about taking on this challenge
and being such great supporters of other peoples needs. It
truly shows the generosity of the Frederic Community.
Our Buddy Patrol is now on duty during recess. Any
students that are feeling lonely or don't have anyone to play with
are encouraged to sit on the Buddy Bench. The Buddy Patrol will
watch the bench carefully, if they spot anyone sitting on the bench
they will talk with them and make sure they have a friend and
someone to play with. At Frederic Elementary we want to make sure
that all of our students feel welcome and included.
